Problem

Ready Portals needed to make a complex physical and digital service understandable to state leaders, library staff, program operators, and residents. One communication approach could not serve every audience equally, especially when local program ownership and public trust were central to adoption.

Solution

I created a connected product-storytelling system across web, case-study, and print materials. Two brochure directions share a product foundation while deliberately changing brand hierarchy and language: a Ready-led educational edition and an Oklahoma Broadband Office-led edition that became the distributed program piece.

Context

Ready Portals are private, connected rooms designed to bring care, education, workforce services, and other opportunities into trusted community institutions such as libraries.

The communication challenge was unusual: the same product had to make sense to state leaders, library staff, program operators, and residents, each with different questions and levels of technical knowledge.

One product, two communication needs

Instead of forcing one brochure to serve every situation, I developed distinct directions that could share a product foundation while shifting brand emphasis, language, and calls to action for the audience.

Designing the concierge and iPad experience

The Portal experience extends beyond public-facing education into the room itself. I helped shape a coordinated two-screen interaction: a privacy-forward concierge display that guides people through each step, paired with an iPad interface for appointments, reservations, health, jobs, learning, legal help, veterans and reentry, and benefits.

The system needed to remain legible from a distance, approachable on the tablet, and consistent across voice and touch. The concierge orb, spoken guidance, privacy state, reset, help, language controls, and service pathways work together so people can always understand what the Portal is doing and what to do next.

Version 01: Ready educational edition

The Ready-led concept introduces the Portal in approachable language and emphasizes what the room feels like, common use cases, privacy, accessibility, and simple first-visit steps. The Ready identity provides product authority and makes the piece reusable beyond a single state program.

Version 02: Oklahoma distributed edition

For the Oklahoma rollout, the hierarchy shifted toward the Oklahoma Broadband Office and the state program. Ready moved into a supporting role so the brochure would feel locally owned and appropriate for libraries and communities receiving it.

This version explains services, the Portal experience, privacy, site requirements, and the request process. It was prepared as an 11 × 8.5 inch trifold with production bleed and became the version distributed for the Oklahoma program.

A connected web and field system

The brochure work sits within a larger ecosystem that includes the Ready Portals product page, the Oklahoma case-study experience, program imagery, and fleet and progress storytelling. Together, the pieces move from product explanation to public understanding and local action.

Outcome

The final system demonstrates how one product can be translated without losing coherence: Ready-led materials can educate broadly, while state-branded materials can build trust and ownership in a specific deployment.

The distributed Oklahoma edition also turns a digital concept into a real production artifact, showing attention to messaging, accessibility, brand hierarchy, folds, bleed, and print constraints.
