Problem
Navigating broadband grants is a daunting challenge for ISPs and community networks, with fragmented processes across multiple state and federal programs. For Ready.net, the challenge was twofold: simplify this process for ISPs through a powerful, user-friendly platform and position Ready BOSS as the essential toolkit for broadband providers. As the founding designer, I was tasked with creating the visual identity and user experience for Broadband.money, ensuring the platform not only solved a critical pain point for ISPs but also drove awareness of Ready.net as the main brand.
Solution
Broadband.money was developed as a guerrilla marketing initiative and resource hub to connect ISPs with broadband grants. My role encompassed every aspect of the platform’s design, from branding to UX/UI and content strategy. The goal was to craft an intuitive, visually cohesive experience that positioned Broadband.money as a trusted resource and seamlessly tied it back to Ready.net’s ecosystem.
My Design Contributions
1. Brand Identity
Building on Ready.net’s visual language, I crafted a distinct but complementary identity for Broadband.money. This included:
A clean, professional logo that conveyed trust and simplicity.
A cohesive color palette and typography system to reinforce the platform’s reliability and accessibility.
Visual elements like icons and layouts designed to communicate complex information clearly.
This identity set the tone for the platform’s approachable, yet authoritative presence, ensuring it appealed to both ISPs and grant administrators.
2. UX/UI Design
The platform needed to handle the complexity of grant applications while remaining user-friendly. My UX/UI work focused on:
Simplifying the multi-step grant discovery and application process into an intuitive flow.
Incorporating geospatial data visualizations to help ISPs identify unserved and underserved areas in their territories.
Designing dashboard abstracts for marketing materials that promoted features like track grant applications, manage reporting, and access educational resources—all in one place.
3. Cross-Brand Integration
As a sub-brand of Ready.net, Broadband.money had to serve as an entry point to Ready BOSS. I ensured seamless integration between the platforms, designing touchpoints that introduced users to Ready.net’s tools without disrupting their grant application process.
4. Content Strategy
Collaborating closely with the content team, I created layouts and visuals for guides, templates, and lessons. These resources enhanced the platform’s value and usability, positioning Broadband.money as a trusted partner for ISPs.
Driving Results Through Design
The platform’s design contributed significantly to its success:
Streamlined Grant Applications: Simplified UX/UI allowed ISPs to efficiently discover and apply for grants, reducing barriers to funding.
Broadband.io Evolution: The strong visual identity and community focus laid the groundwork for Broadband.io, a thriving network of ISPs and stakeholders.
Increased Awareness for Ready.net: Strategic cross-brand integration introduced users to Ready BOSS, driving adoption of Ready.net’s tools.
Impact and Reflection
Broadband.money’s success is a testament to the power of thoughtful design in solving complex challenges. As the founding designer, I leveraged my experience from Ready.net to create a platform that not only addressed ISPs’ pain points but also positioned Ready.net as a leader in broadband solutions.
The evolution into Broadband.io further highlights the lasting impact of the design and strategy, turning Broadband.money into more than a tool—it became a community. This project reinforced my ability to design for scale, usability, and brand cohesion while delivering measurable results.
